Enermax MaxREVO 1500-watt 80 PLUS Gold Power Supply Review - Tweaktown

Citat:
Time and time again, Enermax delivers quality power supplies and today is no different. The Enermax MaxREVO 1500W power supply is a welcome addition to the lineup and one that is much needed to continue to provide enthusiasts with solutions to the massive requirements of today's very high-end PC market. Enermax knows that when such high amounts of power are needed, it is quite necessary that it be of quality and that is just what you get with the MaxREVO 1500W.

Since the MaxREVO 1500W is nearly identical to that of the MaxREVO 1350W, we expected that our performance numbers would be nearly identical as well. We were quite pleased when we saw mild improvements in voltage regulation. All of the 12V rails were still within 2% of specification and the 5V rail was still within 1%. Our 1500W unit showed that the 3.3V rail was now within 3% of specification and very close to being within 2%. DC output quality and efficiency were once again almost identical to what we saw with the 1350W model and we're happy to see that.
Where the MaxREVO 1500W really starts to shine is when you start to look at the price. There are only two power supplies on the market that are 1500W or more and priced lower than the MaxREVO 1500W. Of those two, only the LEPA G1600-MA is 80 PLUS Gold rated or higher. It too is manufactured by Enermax and is based off the design of the MaxREVO series. Making the deal even sweeter is that the MaxREVO 1500W is cheaper than many other manufacturers' 1200W-1400W units. Don't forget that Enermax backs your purchase by a five year warranty too.

Seasonic G Series 550 W - TPU

Citat:
  • The Seasonic G Series 550 W retails for $99.99
  • Delivered full power (and even more) at 45°C
  • Efficient
  • Good voltage regulation overall
  • Excellent ripple suppression
  • Fair price
  • Five year warranty
  • Pretty rich bundle
  • Hold-up time is 2 ms lower than the limit of the ATX spec
  • Only two PCIe connectors
Seasonic products are, in general, meticulously designed and really good performers. After all, this company has been in this field for ages. They, naturally, have a lot of experience in making PSUs, which is their only and main purpose. The only downside of most Seasonic products is their somehow high price. Especially their high-end models are expensive. Thankfully, most likely due to the tough economic times, Seasonic decided to follow the currents and designed an affordable series with high-end characteristics, allowing users to equip their systems with a high-performance PSU that won't cost them a fortune. The G-550 left me very satisfied with its overall performance and build quality. Clearly, Seasonic made very few compromises in component selection, allowing for high efficiency, tight voltage regulation, and excellent ripple suppression. Only the hold-up time is a little smaller than what ATX spec recommends, but that alone is not enough to spoil the overall good impression of the G-550. Nevertheless, I would like to see this unit equipped with four PCIe connectors instead of only two. I know that Seasonic addresses the mainstream user with this unit, but I would have still liked some extra headroom for a dual PCIe graphics card setup.

To wrap up, the G-550 is another excellent product from a company that has a strong tradition in this field; a company that provides excellent after-sales support which is crucial to all future buyers. Surely, the G-550 meets some strong competition at this price point, but, judging from all test results, I can tell you that it is worthy every penny. You should seriously consider the new Seasonic G-550 if you need a medium capacity PSU and are covered with two PCIe connectors.

TechPowerUp Deploys New PSU Testing Equipment

Citat:
In pursuit of delivering the most comprehensive power supply reviews on the web, TechPowerUp upgraded its testing methodology with new cutting-edge testing equipment that meets industrial standards. Our PSU reviewer deployed eight new Chroma DC loads, which let us simulate the most precise load onto a PSU, testing its efficiency and other parameters. The new setup includes two Chroma 6314A mainframes, equipped with six 63123A loads (350 W each), one 63101A load (200 W) and one 63102A load (2 x 100 W). Our equipment allows us to load 12V rails with up to 2100 W loads, 5V with 200W, 5VSB and 3.3V with 100 W, each. We make our own software to the extant possible. Our PSU reviewer developed a new software that automates most of our crossload testing. Industry alternatives for this cost a bomb.

FSP Raider 750-Watt 80 PLUS Bronze Power Supply Review - Tweaktown

Citat:
It is very clear right from the start that FSP gears the Raider 750W power supply for those who are conscious about price. Mainstream users typically aren't concerned about having the best performance possible, but rather the best performance for their money. These are the guys that will try to keep to sub-$250 processors, sub-$300 video cards, and sub-$150 power supplies. Many people are often surprised at the performance you cans squeeze out of a computer on a budget and it is because of little jewels like the FSP Raider 750W power supply that we can do so.
The unit sacrifices many of the things enthusiasts have demanded come standard with a power supply such as modular cabling, high efficiency, full cable sleeving, and sometimes even cable ties. It even gives up a little bit of build quality with the use of Teapo capacitors and some silence with the utilization of a 120mm fan instead of the more standard 140mm fan we are accustomed to seeing.

What FSP doesn't give up on is performance. Many times we have low budget, mid-range wattage power supplies fall out of specifications which can lead to system instability or blown components. The FSP Raider 750W doesn't have the super tight voltages we've seen with the $200 and $300 units that we've been testing as of late, nor is it meant to. It does a great job of utilizing the tolerances built into the ATX specifications.
What impressed us the most here though is the efficiency of the unit. Almost every unit we test follows the typical bell ***** where voltage starts out low, rises toward peak efficiency at ~50% load, then falls again as it reaches full load. The FSP Raider may be Bronze rated, but it starts off with Gold level efficiency. The best part about this is that this is where the power supply will sit most of the time and give you the best efficiency while checking email, browsing the web and sitting idle.
All of this makes the FSP Raider 750W power supply very attractive. Things only get better when you factor in the five year warranty and the super low price of $81. One simply couldn't ask FSP to come up with a better bundle for such a low price, and those on a tight budget would be a fool not to consider the FSP raider 750W in their next build.

Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 10 550W PSU Review - VR-Zone

Citat:
In terms of quality, the Dark Power Pro 10 550W unit is nearly perfect. Externally, the paint job and assembly are immaculate, leaving nothing more to be desired. Be Quiet also chose some of the finest quality components, from their unique Silentwings fan down to the transformers and capacitors, creating a very high quality product. The internal assembly quality is well above average as well, yet there were a few points where the soldering job could be better.
When it comes to performance, the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 10 550W unit leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. The electrical performance of the power supply is outstanding, with very tight voltage regulation and excellent ripple suppression, while the efficiency of the unit is remarkable even for a product which carries the 80Plus Gold certification.

Enermax MAXREVO 1500 W Review - TPU

Citat:
  • The Emermax MAXREVO 1500 W retails for $359.99
  • Delivered its full power at 47°C
  • Monstrous capacity
  • Quality components used
  • Excellent build quality
  • Huge amount of available connectors
  • Fully modular
  • Fairly quiet operation at lower loads & normal ambient
  • 5 year warranty
  • Rich bundle
  • Low hold-up time
  • Ripple at 5V is on the high side
  • Rigid modular cables
The fresh Enermax MAXREVO 1500 W is undoubtedly a very good PSU from a company with a long and successful tradition in this field. Since the EVGA SuperNOVA costs significantly more, it only encounters competition from its own siblings, the LEPA 1600 W and the Enermax Platimax 1500 W. Both the above-mentioned LEPA and Enermax units registered looser voltage regulation on the +12V rail than the big MAXREVO, but come with ten PCIe connectors out of the box. The LEPA unit also costs around 30 bucks less; however, the LEPA doesn't include as rich of a bundle as Enermax's units. I would, personally, pick the EMR1500EGT over its in-house competition because it managed to attain decent voltage regulation at +12V with a full load and 47°C ambient. Its ripple suppression on the same rail is, furthermore, quite good. Overall, the MAXREVO 1500 W is a high quality PSU that delivers tremendous power levels only very few systems with multiple and highly overclocked Graphics Cards and CPU(s) will fully utilize. One positive aspects of this platform is the fact that it is able to attain high efficiency at bottom low loads far smaller than 10% of its maximum rated capacity. The big MAXREVO actually performs really well and doesn't waste much energy in an area, here efficiency at low loads, other high capacity PSUs struggle with. A user that invests in such a high capacity PSU usually won't utilize it with a system that stays at idle for significant periods of time, but a high efficiency at low loads from such a monster is, nevertheless, impressive.

To wrap up, the price of the Enermax MAXREVO 1500 W looks intimidating for sure, but you should definitely add this unit to your list of candidates if you plan to install multiple Graphics Cards into your system and need a highly reliable PSU with solid performance numbers. You see, the purchase of a PSU is actually an investment because it will accompany you for many years to both feed and protect all your other precious hardware.

FSP Raider 750W - JonnyGURU
Citat:
The Raider 750 watt unit is FSP's latest attempt to keep their reputation intact as a budget segment leader in the market. And for the most part, it doesn't do too badly at the task. But, I have to wonder if they aren't perhaps trying to come up with innovative designs at the cost of performance, here. 12V regulation was one small step short of being truly mediocre, and the 3.3V rail didn't do much better. Yes, the 5V rail really shone, but how important is that rail anymore, and how useful is that performance if the unit's group design can't take being crossloaded? This unit does indeed have a place in the market. If you're spending most of your time rocking flash games online with the occasional gaming session on one or two low powered cards, you could do worse. But you could also do so much better for just a bit more money. I really think the price needs to come down even more than the cheapest price I can find on this today. Once it gets into the $70-75 range, then I think it becomes a better value.
The Good:
  • excellent low load efficiency
  • shallow mounting depth
  • matte black goodness
  • exceptional 5V stability
  • 50mm intermediary cable lengths on one chain of SATAs
The Bad:
  • a little on the pricey side for the performance gained
  • below average 12V regulation
The Mediocre:
  • serious 5V ripple issues when crossloaded toward either 5V or 12V - just don't try it with this unit
Performance: 7
Functionality: 8
Build Quality : 9,5
Value: 7,5

Total Score: 7,8

EVGA Supernova NEX1500 1500W - JonnyGuru

Citat:
There's one thing we can say beyond a doubt about EVGA's first power supply offering: they came looking to do a cannonball in the power supply market pool, and by golly they did it. Really, I'm impressed that this first unit from them is as good as it is considering how difficult it is to engineer a unit this size, with this much complexity, and still have it come out working this well. I mean, look at those big Enermax units. Enermax has been cranking them out for years now, and even they couldn't hit that coveted 1% average regulation number on a unit this size. Could this beast use improvement? Yes. Is it way too expensive? Yes. But look at what an impact it's made... nearly everybody wants one. I can't really blame them.

The Good:
  • individually sleeved cables look fantastic
  • Gold efficiency
  • excellent ripple control
  • software interface works well
  • comes with padded feet in case you want to run it outside your case
  • 12 gauge power cord
  • will do 1650W at 40 degrees with 230V input
The Bad:
  • individually sleeved cables get tangled easily
  • some build quality issues
  • expensive
  • screamin' loud fan at full power
The Mediocre:
  • I was unable to determine the cause of the ripple anomaly after two units
Performance: 8,5
Functionality: 9
Build Quality : 9
Value: 7

Total Score: 8,4

Diablotek UL Series PSUL575 575 Watt ATX Power Supply Review - TestFreaks

Citat:
The Diablotek UL Series PSUL575 575 Watt ATX Power Supply isn’t a bad choice for a lower end machine or those on a budget. The price on this is around $40 only, and at that price it’s certainly considered ‘budget’ so anyone can afford one, just don’t think it’s going to power a high end machine with dual video cards and many hard drives. For one thing there’s only two PCIE connectors, so there you’re limited as to video cards you can install obviously.
The rails are stable for the most part and fall well within tolerances even under a heavy load they don’t fluctuate much at all.
The fan is quiet, or at least it doesn’t add anymore noise to my system with the three cooling fans already in it.
The 3.3v line is questionable, but it’s within tolerances, still it never hits 3.3 volts actually.
I’m using this PSU for my kids computer where they do web browsing and light to medium gaming so it should be fine. I would not put it in a higher end system though as I don’t think it would be able to handle it. Then again it is only 575watt so if you do have a higher end system you’ll want a higher wattage PSU surely.
For a budget PSU I don’t thin it’s too bad, especially the price. If you need a replacement PSU for a lower end system then you should be fine with this I would think.

Pros:
+Runs quiet under load
+Fairly stable overall
+Low price
+Runs within tolerances
Cons:
-3.3v line never actually hits 3.3v

PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III 1200-Watt 80 PLUS Platinum Power Supply Review - Tweaktown

Citat:
At 1200W the Silencer Mk III 1200W is the highest wattage Silencer series power supply to come to market. As such, we expected not only lots of power, but quality throughout with great performance. As the results above show, the unit does not disappoint on either of these. Voltage regulation is fantastic from start to finish with all rails at 2% across the board. DC output quality is just as fantastic as noise seen on the 12V rail is under 30mV at 1000W. Let's not forget about the efficiency of the unit either as Platinum efficiency at 1200W isn't an easy task. There are very few Platinum rated power supplies available above 1000W, but OCZ is now on the list.

There are some minor issues with the unit, but nothing that will be a deal breaker to most. The relatively low combined output of the minor rails will limit some heavy overclockers, but shouldn't have any impact on those who run everything at stock speeds. What still shocks us the most though is the lack of Over Temperature Protection within the unit. It confuses us even more since temperature is already being monitored in order to control the fan speed.
All of that aside, there are two really strong points that the Silencer Mk III 1200W has going for it. One of which is the seven year warranty. It is great to see the warranty stepped up for the 1200W model as it is going to be a power supply you keep around for quite some time. The other is the price tag of $299.
This makes it the cheapest 80 Plus Platinum rated power supply in the 1200W and above category and that's something to brag about.

Akasa Venom Power 850W PSU Review - TPU

Citat:
  • The Akasa Venom Power 850 W has an MSRP of $159 for the States and 119€ for the EU
  • Delivered 110% of its max rated load at 45°C
  • Good enough voltage regulation at +12V
  • Excellent ripple suppression
  • Efficient (although not as much as other Gold PSUs)
  • Quiet fan (at normal operation)
  • Few native cables
  • Could have two more PCIe connectors
  • Loose voltage regulation at 3.3V
  • 5VSB dropped below limit during the full-load test
  • Short warranty period
  • The single rail statement isn't true. Actually, the unit has four +12V rails.
Akasa left the budget/mainstream category and entered the high-end market with their new Gold efficiency Venom PSU. Overall, the Venom 850 W performed well, although there are some areas that need improvements.
The first is efficiency, which is lower than the other high-end Gold units I have tested in the past, and the second is voltage regulation with 3.3V and 5VSB. Especially the 5VSB rail showed a clear weakness during the full-load test. Regardless, the problems I spotted did not spoil my overall positive impression since ripple suppression is excellent on all rails, the +12V rail registered fairly tight voltage regulation, the PSU managed to deliver 10% more than its maximum power at 45°C ambient, and most of its cables are modular.
One thing I couldn't understand though is Akasa's decision to advertise it as a single rail unit, while, in fact, it has four +12V rails with a high OCP trigger point (40 A). I am aware that most users think that single rail PSUs allow higher overclocks, but that is just a myth. If the OCP triggering point is at the right level, a multi-rail PSU is actually safer than a single rail one.

To wind up, the new Venom 850 W is a good and reliable unit that will meet some serious competition if it hits the stores with the price-tag Akasa gave us. However, if it retails for around 130 bucks, it will be a very good choice for someone that doesn't want to spend more for a 850 W Gold unit based on a cutting-edge platform.

- X-Series 1050 W / 1250 W – Heavy-duty workload and top end performance

The new X-650, X-750 and X-850 models feature our unique integrated DC connector panel with onboard VRM (Voltage Regulator Module). This feature not only enables ideal DC-to-DC conversion and reduced current loss but it also includes Fully Modular DC Cabling to ensure forward compatibility and flexible integration. The already tight voltage regulation has further been improved from ±3 to ±2%, which results in higher efficiency and better performance.

An important feature of the X-650, X-750 and X-850 units is the state of the art cooling that also enables absolute silent running. For manual control, however, there is a selector switch on the modular cable plug side of the PSU, which enables the user to select between traditional fan control (S2FC) and the semi-fanless mode (S3FC). In S3FC mode the fan will only start spinning at loads above 20% of the maximum load. This particularly efficient fan control design is complemented by top quality Sanyo Denki San Ace fans, which are considered to be one of the best on the market today. They feature three-point balancing, copper axel and spoon shaped blades to ensure the most reliable performance.

Rosewill Announces SilentNight and Tachyon PSUs

Citat:
Rosewill announced the SilentNight 500W fanless PSU and Tachyon 550W. The two 80 Plus Platinum-compliant PSUs were launched earlier today. The SilentNight 500W appears to be based on an Seasonic platform, and uses a chunky aluminum heatsink that makes direct contact with hot components such as FETs, to cool itself, without needing a fan. It features sufficient cabling for a mid-range dual-GPU gaming PC, including a pair 6+2 pin PCIe connectors, 8-pin EPS, 24-pin ATX, and up to six SATA power connectors. It uses a partially-modular cabling layout.

The Tachyon 550W, on the other hand, uses a slow (quiet) temperature-controlled 140 mm fan to cool itself. It packs an identical contingent of cables to the SilentNight 500W. Both models feature single +12V rail designs, modern regulatory compliances, and protection against a variety of electrical anomalies, such as over/under voltage, overload, short-circuit, overheat, etc. The two will occupy price points around US $100.

Seasonic introduces new 80Plus Platinum PSUs

Citat:
Seasonic sends out word that it has eight new power supplies with 80Plus Platinum rating. It includes the fanless 400W, 460W and 520W models, as well as 660W, 760W and 860W models with a large fan. On top of that, Seagate is also working on 1000W and 1200W models, which should arrive soon.
The launch of the Seasonic Platinum series has achieved great success last year. The fully modular Platinum-860W and Platinum-1000W power supplies have won numerous accolades and became standards of excellence for the 80 PlusR Platinum design throughout the entire industry.

This year, by presenting an extended family of the Platinum series, Sea Sonic’s strength in innovation once again takes center stage to lead the way towards solutions that require the highest efficiency and top performance. The new lineup of Sea Sonic’s Platinum series will span the output range of 400 to 1200 watts. All units of the family come equipped with our patented Fully Modular DC Cable design that maximizes output, ensures the stability of the crucial 12V rail and, at the same time, provides ease of integration and ensures forward compatibility. Sea Sonic’s extended Platinum Series, which is currently the most complete 80 PlusR Platinum series available on the market, entails the following products:

Platinum 400W / 460W / 520W FANLESS – Silent performance
Seasonic has upgraded The X-400 and X-460 Fanless models from 80 PlusR Gold to 80 Plus Platinum, and a new 520W Fanless model also joins the Platinum family.

Platinum 660W / 760W / 860W – Ultra performance and efficiency

Platinum 1000W / 1200W (coming soon) – High-end gaming and overclocking
Sea Sonic’s highly efficient power supplies in the Platinum 660W to 1200W range are top performers that at lower loads can operate absolute silently in semi-fanless mode. As an additional feature, all these units are equipped with a selector switch that enables users to choose between traditional fan control (S2FC) and semi-fanless mode (S3FC). This sophisticated S3FC design ensures that the fan will only start spinning at loads greater than 30% of the maximum load.

All the Seasonic Platinum Series power supplies utilize top quality components, such as gold-plated high current terminals and Japan-sourced 105? aluminum electrolytic capacitors, which contribute to high performance, reliability and extended product lifetime. Sea Sonic is committed to high quality and stands behind its products by offering 7 years warranty for all the units in the Platinum series.

nJoy Rogue 600W – Test practic - lab501

Citat:

Seasonic G360 - Jonnyguru

Citat:
Seasonic has really been getting things done lately. First, the X series came and impressed. Then, the X series broke the 80 Plus Platinum barrier and impressed again. Performance was tweaked, resulting in huge 1250W units with near perfect regulation and ripple suppression. Now, they've taken everything awesome about those bigger units and downscaled them into smaller and more wallet friendly units. Is there room for improvement? There always is, yes. Does this unit need improvement? Nope. It's already a better supply than anything else at this power level I can think of right now.
The Good:
  • Gold efficiency
  • outstanding voltage stability
  • shallow housing
  • very good ripple suppression
The Bad:
  • I wanted to complain about something, but Seasonic didn't leave anything to really complain about
The Mediocre:
  • is there any real competition for this unit?
Performance 9.5
Functionality 9
Value 9.5
Build Quality 10
Total Score 9.5
