AMD FX Zambezi Processors Compatible with ASUS AM3 Motherboards Using BIOS Update

Information available with SweClockers points to the contrary.

According to the source, motherboard major ASUS is planning to provide support to AM3+ processors to some of its existing AM3 motherboards using mere BIOS updates. That's right, Zambezi will indeed be backwards compatible with AM3 and existing chipset, only what remains to be seen is if the processors will perform to their full potential and overclock well on existing platform. Amongst ASUS' Schindler's list are top of the line AM3 models, such as ROG Crosshair IV Formula and Extreme, M4A89TD PRO/USB3, and even AMD 890GX-based motherboards such as M4A89GTD PRO. The list also shows certain AM3+ motherboards that use dated chipsets such as 760G, probably the entry-level of ASUS' M5A series of motherboards.

Asus Sabertooth P67 TUF Review - Does its thermal armor really work?

Quote:
I definitely had a lot of fun testing the Asus Sabertooth P67 out, given its all new thermal armor as well as the determination to be the most reliable consumer level motherboard on the market, I’m sure that it will sell well. Although overclocking was limited by the 5.5GHz barrier, it already has proved itself to be capable of a 61% overclock on the CPU. Comparing to a much cheaper motherboard that Biostar has brought into the local market, there is almost no fight compared to the Sabertooth. This could be due to the oddly designed TP67B+ motherboard leading to a fluctuating BClk speed, giving the Sabertooth an advantage in almost all the benchmark. I’m very happy with my new and interesting wild cat. It has lived up to the name of the historical legend, the Sabertooth.

Final Thoughts
Factor Score Design 9.5 Features 9.0 Performance 9.0 Overclocking Capabilities 8.0 Price 8.0 Average 8.7
Design - There is no doubt that Thermal Armor is worth a score of 9.5. It's the first time we are seeing such a design in a motherboard.
Features - Military class components for prolonged reliability.
Performance - Asus standard of performance, beating other brands hands down.
Overclocking capabilities - Wall at 5.5GHz, known to do better with P8P67 Deluxe.
Price - Reasonably priced below P8P67 Deluxe. Generous 5 years warranty. However, S$369 may not be a price that many can afford.

ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Professional (Intel P67 Express) Motherboard

Quote:
I do think that ASRock and Fatal1ty have gone a little overboard with some of the images and the color scheme is a little too much at times, but still, the Fatal1ty is a solid performer - that much can't be denied.
ASRock does have some work to do on fine tuning the overclocking performance on the board (nothing some changes in the BIOS can't fix, though) and need to correct the THX driver activation issue along with the Fatal1ty mouse port problem. However, these two items do not take away from what you are really getting and that is a good gaming platform with some extras on the side. The dual GBe LAN ports with an option for Teaming, three-way SLI or Crossfire, and excellent power efficiency and cooling all go to add value to this board.

Asus AM3 motherboards get beta BIOS, Bulldozer support - TechSpot

Quote:
Asus has been quick to announce they are the first manufacturer to offer beta BIOS updates for current AM3 motherboards, receiving instant support for AMD's upcoming Bulldozer processors.

Although AMD's processor refresh is still a few months away, we have come to learn many interesting details about the 32nm CPUs in recent weeks. It's been unofficially confirmed that the company will abandon its Sempron, Athlon and Phenom branding in favor of the FX and A-Series nomenclature, spanning offerings in all price ranges, packing Radeon graphics and sporting up to eight cores on the higher-end models.

Asus AM3 motherboards that get Bulldozer support after a BIOS update are as follows: Crosshair IV Extreme, Crosshair IV Formula, M4A89TD PRO/USB3, M4A89TD PRO, M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, M4A89GTD PRO.

MSI E350IA-E45 - AMD APU Fusion review

Quote:
The video accelerator, it's capacity and features astounded me the most though. I'd have no problem with a little E-350 based mITX motherboard functioning as HTPC whatsoever. It's power efficient and offers downright superb quality with software that can utilize the graphics core as video accelerator. In combination with the sheer silence of these setups AND the fact that you can hook it into HDMI or if you wanted top, use a coaxial or Optical Toslink for your audio, makes it near perfect for the budget.

The Fusion infrastructure created here is working out really well, you'll have a fairly well performing product (for our standards) on which you can manage all your generic and daily stuff on quite well. The key factors of the product tested today is the combination of the CPU+GPU, yep that APU works out well. Especially in the HD video segment this could be a really interesting product. Not only video, but also audio gets passed over HDMi or if you prefer a coaxial or even optical TOSLINK output.

Next to that the product will shine at power consumption. The initial Gigabyte board we tested consumed more power then this one from MSI, our average top power consumption was just over 35 Watt, which kind of makes you giggle when you realize you are decoding full 1080P content on the HDTV.
