ASUS officially launches its Z9PE-D8 WS motherboard

Dual LGA 2011 socket one

Although it was detailed a while back, Asus has now officially announced its newest workstation series dual-socket motherboard, the Asus Z9PE-D8 WS. Based on Intel's C606 Patsburg chipset, the new Z9PE-D8 WS features two LGA 2011 sockets ready for Intel's Sandy Bridge-EP Xeon E5 CPUs.

The new Z9PE-D8 WS is based on a larger, 30.5x33cm size, EEB form factor usually reserved for server motherboards and, in addition to two LGA 2011 sockets, features a total of eight DDR3 DIMM slots (four for each socket) with support for up to 256GB of memory. It also packs four blue PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, two black PCI-Express 3.0 x16 working at x8 and one bottom black PCI-Express 2.0 x16 working at x4, all ensuring 4-way SLI and CrossfireX support.

The rest of the specs include a total of six SATA 6Gbps ports, eight SATA 3Gbps ones, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, 7.1-channel audio, a bunch of USB 2.0 and couple of USB 3.0 ports.

Unfortunately, the price hasn't been revealed by Asus but thankfully it is currently available at Newegg.com with a price tag of US $599.99

The board simply goes to show that the latest technologies can be moulded onto a Micro ATX board and still offer room to breathe. PCI-Express x16 is available with the extra added features of AMD CrossFireX being on tap, though if you don’t want to go down this route, you still have VGA, DVI or HDMI to choose from when looking at the processors iGPU.

@Geo tin sa cred ca se vor ieftini cand vor intra pe stoc si ca asta a fost doar un pret orientativ la momentul lansarii.Sper cel putin, ca oricum deocamdata MSI au cele mai dotate placi din oferta. Oricum in vreo doua saptamani ar trebui sa apara si restul modelelor Z77 si de la ceilalti producatori, asteptam si vedem

In ce priveste Asus-ul, iti dau dreptate. Cat despre gigibut, nu prea...Pana acum, Asrock-ul are cele mai ieftine placi cu chipset Z77 (Preturile din Germania si Franta luate ca etalon).
